What Happens in a Kundalini Activation Session?

Step inside a Radiant Flo ceremony, from arriving and preparation to transmission, integration and aftercare.

In a Kundalini Activation session, you lie down, close your eyes and receive while music supports the experience. There is nothing you need to perform, visualize or understand beforehand.

Around the activation is something equally important to me: ceremony. There is time to arrive, set an intention, open the space, receive, integrate and return.

I can only speak to what happens in my sessions. Facilitators work differently, and this is how I hold the work.

How does a Kundalini Activation session begin?

Before you ever lie down, we arrive.

When you enter the space, I greet you and cleanse your energy field with ceremonial smoke, usually Palo Santo, sage or copal. I often use light language during this part of the ceremony as well. From there, you settle into the space. You may pull an oracle card and set an intention for what you are ready to receive, release or explore.

I open the ceremony with prayer and establish energetic boundaries around the field we are creating together.

What happens next isn’t identical every time. Sometimes we move, dance or shake. Sometimes we breathe. These practices help us arrive more fully in the body and begin opening the ceremonial space. If we are gathering around a Full Moon or New Moon, we may explore the themes of that moon and what they are bringing forward in our lives.

I usually invite people to share what is present for them. There is something powerful about hearing the voices of the people you are about to enter ceremony beside. Depending on the ceremony, I may also serve cacao or Blue Lotus. Sometimes neither.

I don’t follow a rigid sequence because I don’t experience ceremony as something that can always be scripted. I listen to the field.

How is the space set up?

When we are ready for the activation, everyone finds a comfortable place to lie down. For in-person ceremonies, I provide the mats, blankets, cushions and eye masks. I recommend bringing water, and you are welcome to bring something meaningful to place on the altar if you feel called: a flower, crystal, photograph or another personal object.

Comfort matters. Your temperature may shift during the experience, so a blanket is nearby. Covering the eyes can make it easier to turn your awareness inward and let the outside world soften for a while.

The physical setup is simple. You lie down. And from there, the invitation is to receive.

What happens before the activation begins?

Before the main activation begins, I prepare both the body and the energetic field to receive. I guide you through gentle breathwork, grounding and what I call light body activation, a subtle energetic practice intended to activate and bring awareness into the energetic field before the transmission begins.

This isn’t about trying to awaken Kundalini through effort. It is simply preparation: allowing you to arrive more fully in your body, soften out of the thinking mind and become receptive to the experience. Then you lie down, put on your eye mask, and the practice becomes surrender.

If your body wants to move, allow it.If emotion comes, let yourself feel it.If you enter deep stillness, you can stay there.

And if the experience is subtle, there is nothing you need to manufacture to make it more meaningful. There is no correct way to look while receiving Kundalini Activation.

What happens when the activation begins?

The music begins, and for approximately an hour and fifteen minutes, you remain lying down with your eyes covered while I move through the space.

Music is an important part of how I hold these sessions. The activation portion can be rhythmic and powerful, often incorporating drums, tribal rhythms and other music that supports movement and energetic expression. Every playlist is different. I change them often depending on what I feel inspired to work with.

While you are receiving, you may hear me moving around the room. At times I may be close to you. At other times I may be working with someone else. You may hear drums, shakers, chimes, crystal bowls, light language or other sounds moving through the space.

Your only responsibility is to remain with your own experience.

What am I doing while you are lying down?

While you receive, I move through the room intuitively, working with each person individually while continuing to hold the field for everyone. I transmit energy through my hands, my voice and my presence.

I may begin at the crown, opening that energetic center to receive, and from there I am guided toward different points within the energy system. Sometimes I work through the crown or third eye. Sometimes I am drawn toward the heart, the feet chakras or another energetic center asking for attention. I don’t follow the same sequence with every person.

In the spiritual framework in which I practice, I understand this as opening myself to Supreme Creator and divine energy and allowing that energy to move through me as a transmission.

My intention is not to force Kundalini upward or manufacture an awakening. It is to create an invitation for your own Kundalini, your own Shakti, to respond at the pace that is right for you. The transmission may come through my hands, through light language and sound, or through my presence within the field. I am listening throughout: to what I perceive within your energy, to what I am being guided toward and to what your system appears ready to receive.

Will you touch me during Kundalini Activation?

Sometimes.

I may use light touch or tapping on particular energetic points during an in-person session. Before we begin, I explain that touch may be part of the experience and ask permission.

Touch is always optional.

If you prefer a completely hands-off experience, you can tell me. Your boundaries do not interfere with your ability to receive the session. Consent and sovereignty are part of the container.

What might I experience while I’m lying there?

There is no single Kundalini Activation experience.

Some people feel warmth, tingling or waves of sensation moving through the body. Some experience spontaneous movements such as stretching, shaking, arching or postures they didn’t consciously decide to make. Emotion may arise: tears, laughter, joy, tenderness or something difficult to name. Others experience imagery, colors, memories, insights or states they interpret spiritually. And some people lie almost completely still.

I don’t consider one of these experiences more successful than another. A dramatic physical response doesn’t necessarily mean a deeper activation. Someone can be completely still while experiencing something profound internally.

You do not need to perform Kundalini. You simply notice what is actually happening for you.

What is light language, and why might you hear it?

Light language often comes through my voice while I facilitate. I experience it as an intuitive, non-linear form of vocal expression that may come through as sounds, tones, syllables or song-like frequencies. It isn’t something I believe needs to be intellectually understood in order to be experienced.

I don’t plan what I am going to say in light language. It arises while I am in the transmission. Sometimes it becomes very gentle. Sometimes it becomes powerful. Sometimes very little comes through at all.

You don’t need to understand it or assign a particular meaning to it. You can simply notice how your body responds to the sound.

How does a Kundalini Activation session end?

The ending matters just as much to me as the activation itself.

As the playlist moves toward its final portion, the energy begins to soften. There may be emotion that wants to move through, and sometimes I intentionally create space in the music for that release. Then we enter integration. The music becomes gentler and there is time for your body to settle before I ask you to return fully to the room. I bring you back slowly, inviting awareness into your body and senses again rather than abruptly pulling you out of the experience.

After an in-person ceremony, I usually serve something small to eat. Eating can be a simple way of returning attention to the physical body after spending so much time turned inward. Then, if people want to, we share. Sometimes people have a lot to say. Sometimes they have almost no words. Both are welcome.

I have also witnessed moments when several people in the same group describe surprisingly similar imagery, emotions or themes. I find those moments fascinating, but I don’t need to decide for someone else what they mean.

We listen. We give gratitude. We close the field. And eventually, we go back into our lives.

What is my role as a Kundalini Activation facilitator?

I am not deciding what your body should do, and I am not manufacturing your experience. My role is to open, transmit, listen and hold the field. I create an invitation rather than trying to force an awakening.

I experience each person’s energy as having its own intelligence, and part of my practice is respecting that intelligence rather than overriding it.

You may be entering a ceremony I am facilitating, but your experience remains your own.

Is an online Kundalini Activation session different?

The container is different, but the shape of the experience is very similar.

Online sessions are approximately 90 minutes and take place over Zoom. We begin by meeting one another and setting intentions. I open the ceremony with prayer and establish the energetic boundary around our space, just as I do in person. The difference is that you create the physical container yourself.

  • Lie on a bed or mat with your head aligned with your spine rather than elevated on a pillow
  • Wear comfortable clothing, and keep a blanket and eye mask nearby
  • Create a private space where you are unlikely to be interrupted, with water nearby
  • Take the sound seriously: good headphones are ideal, and high-quality speakers can also work. Laptop speakers simply don’t create the same immersion
  • Eat lightly beforehand so your body isn’t working with a heavy meal while you receive

During an online activation, I still work with people individually and with the group collectively. Light language comes through just as it does in person. I may occasionally use a shaker or drum, although many of the physical instruments I use in ceremony don’t translate through a screen in quite the same way.

Within the energetic framework in which I practice, transmission is not understood to depend upon physical proximity. You don’t have to decide whether you believe that before participating. You can experience it and discern for yourself.

What happens after a Kundalini Activation session?

For some people, the experience feels complete when the ceremony ends. Others notice things continuing to unfold afterward. You may feel peaceful or energized. You may feel tired. Emotions may surface. Dreams can become vivid. You may notice insights, changes in perspective or a desire for more quiet than usual.

I encourage you not to immediately turn every sensation, dream or coincidence into a spiritual message. Give the experience room.

  • Hydrate, eat nourishing food and prioritize sleep
  • Spend time in nature, or walk barefoot on the Earth if that feels good
  • Journal anything you want to remember: sensations, dreams, emotions or insights
  • A warm bath with sea salt, Epsom salt or rose petals can become its own little integration ritual
  • Reduce overstimulation, and give yourself permission to slow down or take more space

Integration isn’t about searching for evidence that your activation “worked.” It is about noticing what is actually present and allowing yourself time to be with it.

Sometimes the most meaningful part of a Kundalini Activation isn’t what happens while your eyes are closed. It is what becomes clearer when you open them again.

Questions

How long does a Kundalini Activation session last?

For my in-person group ceremonies, I recommend allowing approximately two hours. The activation itself is generally around an hour and fifteen minutes. The remaining time gives us space for the opening ceremony, intention, preparation, integration and sharing afterward. My online Kundalini Activation sessions are approximately 90 minutes. I don’t like rushing either format. Coming back is part of the experience.

What should I bring to an in-person Kundalini Activation?

Bring water. I provide the mat, blanket, cushion and eye mask. Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely, even though you may spend much of the activation lying down. If you feel called, you can also bring something meaningful to place on the altar during ceremony. This is entirely optional. I recommend eating lightly beforehand rather than arriving immediately after a heavy meal. Mostly, bring yourself.

What if I don’t move or feel very much?

Then that is your experience. Some people move intensely. Some people cry. Some see imagery or experience waves of sensation. Some lie quietly. And some people leave their first session wondering whether very much happened at all. I don’t want you measuring your experience against someone lying beside you, or against a dramatic Kundalini video you saw online. There is nothing you need to prove, nothing you need to perform, and there is no particular experience I need you to have in order for me to consider the session worthwhile. Your relationship with this energy is your own.
